Why this scent exists.

Tea Garden is built around a Japanese spring memory: the walk from a Hoshinomura tea house to the terraced fields at first light, when the gyokuro is being hand-picked, the mist still hasn't lifted, and the air smells like white tea, white blossom, and warm stone. Soft, sensitive-skin friendly, never alcohol-sharp.

Tea Garden sits close to the skin — a quiet, green solid perfume built around the memory of Yame's first-flush gyokuro and the gardens that grow around it.

It opens cool: shiikuwasa lime sliced against kuromoji, the mountain spicewood the tea farmers chew between rows. Peach softens that edge before the heart unfolds — white tea and green tea pulled from the same plant a season apart, osmanthus in honey-bloom, magnolia cool against the steam. The dry-down is a temple base — white musk, sandalwood, and a thread of honeysuckle that lingers like the breeze through the bamboo.

Tea Garden is a love letter to Yame in spring — the terraced fields of Hoshinomura, where the country's most prized gyokuro is hand-picked at first flush.

Each spring, the slopes above Yame turn deep emerald. Tea farmers who learned from their grandfathers walk between rows at dawn, picking only the youngest shoots — three leaves and a bud. The mist hasn't lifted yet. The garden smells of warm earth, white blossom, and steam off the first kettle.

The air carries something quieter, too — kuromoji from the wood line, magnolia from the gardens around the temple, the faint citrus of shiikuwasa from the tea farmer's lunch. By midmorning the sun warms the stone walls, the osmanthus releases its honey, and the breeze rolls through bamboo back to the river.

How long does the scent last?

On skin, Sayuri balms project close-to-body for 3–5 hours and leave a soft dry-down that can linger up to 8. Because the formula is oil-based, the scent stays intimate rather than filling a room.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Yes — our base is organic beeswax, jojoba, shea and cocoa butter, with no alcohol, parabens, or synthetic fixatives. We recommend a small patch test on the inner wrist if you're new to solid perfumes.

Can I fly with it?

Yes. A Sayuri compact is a solid, not a liquid, so TSA/EASA liquid rules don't apply. It tucks into a coat pocket or the corner of a carry-on.

How should I store it?

Keep your compact out of direct sunlight and below 25°C / 77°F. If it ever softens in heat, let it rest in a cool spot overnight — it returns to its original texture without losing scent.

Is it cruelty-free?

Always. No animal testing, ever. Our beeswax comes from small Japanese and European apiaries that practice sustainable hive management.
